Day 20 (September 9, 2006) - Grand Teton N.P.
<<^>>
Off to our first hike. It's early in the morning and we chose a 4-mile loop around Hermitage point. We had some difficulty finding the trailhead - just imagine how easy it will be for us to get lost. Petr has borrowed a portable GPS (thanks Pavle!!!) that he setup before we hit the trail, so in theory if we get lost it will be enough to tell the GPS "bring us back home" and voilą. We were told by the park ranger that there have been bear sightings in the area and just the week before they had to put a bear down because he entered the campground and ate some food that people left unattended. That will make a bear aggressive as he searches for more human food. "A fed bear is a dead bear" is the motto around here.

In the afternoon, we rent a motorboat and take a little cruise on the lake. The mountains are magnificent. We explore all the bays we are allowed to go with the boat, hoping to see a bear at least from a safe distance. Nope. Nada. Zip. Back on shore, we head out to watch some wildlife, which should come out around sunset.

View of Grand Teton from Jackson Lake.

Another view.

We rented a small motorboat and zoomed around the lake. Petr was the captain.

Laura's successful mutiny attempt.

Looking into the distance.

Saturday evening, we spent it at Oxbow Bend to watch for moose and got rewarded. Every evening mooses go down to the water here before they settle in for the night.

The best seat in the house. I see the moose from up high.

The moose is unaware of us and keeps going after his business.

We stayed for quite a while, until the sunset made it impossible to drive away.

The sunset at Oxbow Bend.

Waldo the moose at sunset. Do you see it?

Time for us as well to go night night.
